Flooding has been a major issue across parts of the UK this month, here we are looking at ways to help keep your farm and livestock safe during the tough weather.

Check Flood Alerts:
On this helpful link you can sign up for EA flood alerts: https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings which should give you some advance warning to get prepared.

Plan Escape Route:
Once you know there is a threat of flooding plan an escape route. Keep contact details of people who can help you move your animals in an emergency – also try and keep your phone charged!

Livestock Safety:
Where possible move livestock and horses to higher areas to try and keep them out of harm’s way and leave plenty of food for them. In the unfortunate event animals are stranded do not try and help them as this may risk your life.

Machinery & Stock Management:
Check any machinery or stock that can be moved to help keep damage to a minimum, also keep any chemicals away as this could contaminate the flood water.

Report Problems:
Report incidents to the Environment Agency incident hotline by calling 0800 80 70 60. Remember to keep a record of what you report, and when.
